Our preschool in Youngsville, Louisiana, places importance on conserving energy and being environmentally aware. Our teachers educate our students on how they can help save Mother Earth in the littlest of ways. After all, small steps create big impacts.
Environmental awareness should be taught in an early childhood education curriculum. As such, we make it a point to be our students’ role models when it comes to cleanliness, especially on natural resources. Here are some ways we do it:
1. Turn off the lights when not in use.
When the class leaves a room, teachers ask a student to turn off the lights. This gives kids a sense of responsibility, which they can use inside and outside the classroom. Our school also posts reminders on mindful electricity usage in classrooms, comfort rooms, offices, and more.
2. Turn off the faucet after using.
We teach our kids the importance of saving water and its impact on our health and cleanliness. Reminders are also posted in drinking areas, comfort rooms, and more.
3. Following the CLAYGO method.
Ourdaycare in Louisiana practices the CLAYGO method. Clean As You Go teaches children to throw their own trash in the correct garbage receptacles. It also teaches mindfulness and respect for the environment and other people.
4. Being friendly to flora and fauna.
At our nursery school, students are encouraged to be friendly and loving towards plants and animals since they too have life and purpose in the world.
